This web-quest is based on the Systems Approach Model (SAM) of instructional design developed by Walter Dick, Lou Carey and James O. Carey. I developed this course during my Master's programs and implemented it with 5th graders in 2008.
Front-End Analysis/Needs Assessment –After surveying a group of five 5th grade teachers and 140-5th grade students I determined that a lesson is needed to introduce search engines, what they are, and how to use them.
Goal Analysis/Identifying Skills – Flow charted entry levels skills of the learner and the skills the learners will develop as they move through the lesson.
Analyzing Leaner/Context – The design is simply because the target audience is learners aged 10 and 11. It focuses on the need for the learners to understand the correct use of Internet search engines and how to use them.
Performance Objectives – Outline what the learners should understand at any given point in the lesson.
Instructional Strategy – Provides an outline for the facilitator to see the progress of the lesson.
Instructional Materials – The development of the web quest will contain videos so the learners can go back and review the content for better understanding.
Formative Evaluations – Is based on information received from the learner at different points during the lesson.
Revising Materials – The final survey will be used to help me redesign the web quest if necessary.
Summative Evaluations – Summative evaluations provide information about the learner's knowledge before the lessons and after the lesson.
